The University of Sydney Vietnam Institute (SVI) works with a diverse range of partners both locally and internationally to deliver high quality, impactful research outcomes.
We work across governments, hospitals, universities, industry, NGOs, and affected communities to deliver research projects, identify new and emerging opportunities for research, and translate research findings into tangible outcomes.
SVI’s culture and decisions are guided by six shared values (C.R.E.A.T.E). We collaborate across disciplines, sectors, and countries; remain resilient in the face of complexity; pursue excellence in research and impact; act with accountability for our actions and outcomes; build trust through transparency and ethical practice; and embrace exploration by fostering curiosity and innovation.

SVI is a Vietnam‑based research institute of the University of Sydney that combines in‑country research capability with an inclusive partnership model to support sustained collaboration across Vietnam, Australia, and the global research community.
Rather than duplicating or competing with faculty‑led research or disciplinary expertise, SVI functions as an enabling and integrative platform that works horizontally across the University of Sydney faculties, schools, multidisciplinary institutes (MDIs), academic networks (including SVAN), and Vietnamese and global partner institutions. Through this model, SVI extends and amplifies faculty‑led research agendas by providing local presence and insights, partnership infrastructure, and systems required for sustained engagement in Vietnam.
SVI delivers its role through a set of integrated collaboration models that support research across the full lifecycle:
These collaboration models are further enabled by SVI’s permanent in‑country presence, which provides continuity of relationships, deep local insight, operational reliability, and institutional memory—conditions that are essential for long‑term research programs in Vietnam.
