Professor Annemarie Hennessy, Deputy Executive Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Health at the University of Sydney (USYD), recently concluded a productive trip to Vietnam, focusing on bolstering collaborative partnerships in the health sector.
During her visit, Ms. Hennessy engaged in board meetings at the University of Sydney Vietnam Institute (SVI) in Hanoi. Key discussions centered around future collaborations with prominent Vietnamese healthcare institutions, including Bach Mai General Hospital and the National Obstetric and Gynecology Hospital. She also connected with enthusiastic Hoc Mai Foundation alumni, who expressed strong interest in revitalizing their connections with the University of Sydney and are now influential figures in Vietnamese public policy.
The second day of her trip took Ms. Hennessy to Ho Chi Minh City, where she visited the District 6 medical center, the official clinical trial research site of SVI. She witnessed firsthand the positive impact of the partnership on community health, particularly in addressing infectious diseases like tuberculosis and HIV. The shared resources and vision are demonstrably improving lives in the region.
In Ho Chi Minh City, Ms. Hennessy, alongside Director Thu-Anh Nguyen and Clinical Trials Director Yen Pham Ngoc, met with representatives from the Japan Institute of Health Security. This newly formed organization is coordinating a Southeast Asian network focused on infection research and control, presenting potential opportunities for the SVI to expand its collaborative reach within the region.
Ms. Hennessy departed Vietnam with a strong impression of the University of Sydney's significant presence and the promising future of its health collaborations in the country through the University of Sydney Vietnam Institute.
